Q: Firstly – please tell us a little about who is currently living at your home.
J: Our home is made of myself, Jess an interior designer, my husband Jamie a primary school teacher, our baby boy, Asher and our Newfoundland, Bear.
Q: Now onto your beautiful home – can you tell us about its story from when you purchased the property until today?
J: We purchased our humble, 1960’s cottage in all its glory, with salmon pink carpet and slate tiles throughout, new to renovating, we were excited to begin the journey and we knew this would be the house we would make our home. It has a soul of its own I think, it has always had a beautiful feeling about it. We started with the interior, which we re-designed and included a new kitchen, butlers pantry, laundry, and bathroom. we uncovered beautiful original hard wood floor boards which we had polished and we also painted some areas of the floor white which really lifted the entry and hallway. Externally have put on a new roof, built a large lower level entertaining deck, and gave the house a lick of paint which totally transformed the overall vibe. We are always thinking of new things to do.
Q: What are you happiest about with the home and how it looks and functions?
J: We love the Australian mid-century, modernist style of our home and its main features which are the raised living areas, high pitched raked ceilings, exposed beams, timber wall panelling, zoned living areas and the large use of glass which creates an abundance of natural light at all times of the day.
Q: What or who are your key style inspirations?
J: Being In the industry myself, I always have my eye out for beautiful design, and I have to say one of my greatest inspirations are the beautiful Byron beach abodes, they have perfected this ‘Byron style’ elegance, coastal comfort and style.
Q: How you would describe your interior style?
J: I think the interior is in keeping with the style of the house and is characterised by the use of crisp whites and a muted colour palette, layers of natural texture, linen and a special piece or two in a room to add bespoke character and personality.
Q: What you love most about living in your house?
J: For us, Home is a sacred space, it tells a story of who we are and is a collection of what we love. We have kept a mixture of old and new and incorporated pieces that we have collected from our travels around the world. We love being at home and we wanted to re create those coastal holiday feels; a calming, happy place to nurture our children, where we can always come back to ourselves and escape from the world.
Q: Can you tell us about the location and you what do you enjoy most? For example, the beach, walks, local café etc.
J: Our home has a southern facing bush aspect that feels as though we are nestled in amongst the trees which we love, we are walking distance to shops and restaurants, 5 minutes drive into town, to the beach, bush walking tracks from our backyard and are just down the road from Glenrock reserve. We are really happy with our location.
Q: Is this your forever home?
J: You never know what the future will bring but for now we are happy right where we are
